Easy ways of using cabinet doors

Cabinet doors can help in improving the ambience of any indoor space acoustically as well as visually. Places like restaurants, gyms, offices, auditoriums, concert halls and hospitals can be very noisy, if effective sound absorption measures are not employed. Specially designed acoustic cabinet doors allow or block sound based on its frequency. This brings down unwanted noise and ensures effective communication.
There are four basic ways to hang a cabinet door: Overlay (the door is larger than the opening and “lays over” it), Full Inset (the door fits completely in the opening and is flush with the cabinet surface), Partial Inset (part of the door is inset into the opening and part of the door overlays the opening), Offset (very similar to “Inset” however the hinge is surface mounted and all of it is visible.) For each of the doors types, there are many different cabinet hinge types that can be used. The overlay dimension is measured from the edge of the cabinet opening to edge of the cabinet doors as it lays in the closed position on the cabinet. The variable overlay hinge accommodates any overlay dimension because it attaches to the surface of the cabinet and not to the edge of the cabinet opening. Full inset doors are used on cabinets where the door butts up against the edge of the cabinet opening. The door lays flush with the surface of the cabinet face. Full inset doors can use either butt hinges or surface mounted cabinet hinges. The most commonly used inset dimension today is the 3/8? inset. The 1/2? inset, 5/8? inset and 3/4? inset hinges were used in the 1950's and 1960's and are no longer used in new construction. There could be an infinite number of offset dimensions, however most of the offsets that are run into nowadays are 3/8? offset. The hinge used is a 3/8? offset .The hinge used is a 3/8? offset hinge. The number of hinges that is required will be contingent upon the height and weight of the doors. One has to determine by using a chart to determine how many hinges are needed. For instance, a 43" high door weighing 14 lbs would require 3 hinges. Accuracy is crucial to the successful installation of hinges and to assure proper door alignment. Some of the true custom cabinet makers and cabinet shops typically outsource their cabinet doors to large cabinet door manufacturers.
